A few things you can ask
A little context from the maker
A Little Magic started because I was having skin issues and wanted something simple, thoughtfully made, and easy to understand. I refined the formula through hands-on use and worked with a PhD chemist for formulation input.
Our Joy + Lavender body butter is made with Shea Butter, Babassu Oil, Jojoba Oil, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), and an essential-oil blend.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why did you start making body butter?
I was having skin issues and wanted something I felt comfortable using—simple, thoughtfully made, and easy to understand.
What makes A Little Magic different?
I didn’t want to treat this like a casual DIY experiment. I refined batches, tested the formula in use, and worked with a PhD chemist for formulation input.
What ingredients are in it?
Shea Butter, Babassu Oil, Jojoba Oil, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), and Essential Oil.
Why shea butter?
Shea is deeply moisturizing, and I already trusted it from using it on my hair before I ever made body butter. I liked how rich and comforting it felt.
Why babassu?
Babassu helps the butter melt and absorb more readily, so it feels less like it is just sitting on top of the skin.
Why jojoba?
Jojoba helps give the formula a lighter feel and smoother slip against the skin.
Why vitamin E?
Vitamin E, or tocopherol, is an antioxidant that helps protect the oils in the formula from oxidation and supports freshness over time. It is not a preservative for microbial growth.
What does Joy + Lavender smell like?
Soft, peaceful, and gently uplifting. The simplest way I can describe it is: it makes me happy.
How strong is the fragrance?
Very subtle. It is meant to sit close to the skin rather than fill the room.
How much should I use?
Start with a small amount because body butter is concentrated. I personally use mine up to about three times a day depending on what my skin needs.
When should it be applied?
I love using it right after a shower and after washing my hands, when my skin feels like it needs that extra layer of comfort.
Can it be used every day?
I use it every day and haven’t had issues, but everyone’s skin is different. Start with a small amount and adjust based on how your skin responds.
Is it greasy?
That can depend on your skin type and how much you apply. If you prefer a lighter finish, start with a very small amount and add more only if needed.
Why is the texture whipped?
I aerate the butter with an immersion blender to create the soft, whipped texture that makes it easy and enjoyable to apply.
What happens if it gets warm or melts?
Because it is made with butters and oils, it can soften or melt in warmer temperatures. As it cools, it will return to a solid state, although the whipped texture may become denser after melting.
How should it be stored?
Keep it at room temperature in a cool, dry place with the lid tightly closed. Avoid introducing water into the tin and keep it away from excessive heat or direct sunlight.
Is it made by hand?
Yes. There are many hands-on steps in the small-batch process, from blending and whipping to filling and finishing each tin.
Where is it made?
It is made in our production facility in small batches.
Is it suitable for sensitive skin?
A Little Magic is a cosmetic product, not a medical treatment. If you have sensitive skin, patch test a small area first and discontinue use if irritation occurs.
Can I use it for eczema or psoriasis?
A Little Magic is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent eczema, psoriasis, or any other medical condition. If you have a skin condition, patch test first and check with a qualified healthcare professional if you have questions about what is appropriate for your skin.
Is it a good gift?
Yes—absolutely. It was designed to feel special, personal, and easy to give to someone you care about.
How long does a 4-oz tin usually last?
For me, about a month. How long it lasts will depend on how often you use it and how much you apply each time.
Do you offer an unscented version?
An unscented 2-oz version is planned and coming soon.
What should I do if I’m sensitive to fragrance?
Patch test a small amount on an area such as the leg or another spot away from the face and nose first. Even a subtle fragrance may not be right for everyone, so discontinue use if you notice irritation or discomfort.
